You’re thinking- So the human species created a vaccine and saved themselves from extinction!?
No, but they did devise a way to make smoking pipes out of fruits found in nature.
Surely this melodramatic intro has eased your anxieties of the state of the world’s affairs.
Now enjoy this step by step guide to making a smoking pipe out of a mere apple, and other fruits, ascending in level of difficulty.
How to make a pipe out of an apple
Materials:
-An apple
-A ballpoint pen
-A nail or a toothpick
Step 1:
Pull out the stem of the apple, this is where the bowl will be.
Step 2:
Remove the tip and ink chamber of the pen (make the pen hollow.)
Step 3:
Using a pen, poke a hole all the way through the side of the apple, in the center, so that it passes through the core, directly beneath the hole where the stem was.
Step 4:
Take your nail or toothpick and press it through the top of the apple where the stem was, creating a channel to the hole you made with the apple.
There should now be 3 holes in your apple; 2 on either side of, and one at the top.
Step 5:
Time to check for airflow. Put your index finger over one of the holes on the side and blow through the hole on the opposite end.
If you can hear air coming through the top, you have successfully created a pipe out of an apple.
Step 6:
To smoke, load the bowl at the top of the apple with your favorite flower. Place your index finger over one of the holes on the side.
Light your flower and draw the smoke through the hole at the opposite end.
How to make a pipe out of a strawberry
Materials
-A strawberry (The bigger the better)
-A knife
-A skewer or toothpick
Step 1:
Poke the skewer or toothpick through the bottom of the strawberry, passing through its core, but stopping at around ¾ of the way through the strawberry.
Step 2:
Now poke a hole through the side of the strawberry creating a channel through the cavity you made at the bottom.
Step 3:
On the side of the strawberry, in the same spot where the hole is, use a knife to carve out a bowl.
Step 4:
Blow through the hole you created in the bottom of the strawberry. If air flows out through the cavity in the bowl you have successfully created a pipe out of a strawberry.
How to make a pipe out of a Banana
Materials:
-A banana
-A hollowed out ballpoint pen
-A knife
Step 1:
Using your knife, cut off the bottom end of the banana at about ¾ of an inch. Then, from this piece, cut off it’s apex. This will be our bowl piece.
Step 2:
Using the pen (you could use a chopstick), poke a hole through the bottom of the piece, and hollow out any flesh from the bowl. Then set the bowl aside for the next step.
Step 3:
Now take the other part of the banana that was separated from the bowl piece. Using your pen (you could use a straw), make a hole through the bottom of the banana, ¾ of the way to the other end.
Step 4:
Using your pen, now make a hole, to create another channel that forms a 90 degree angle with the hole passing through the bottom of the banana.
Blow through the hole at the bottom of the banana to ensure there is airflow through the other channel you just created.
Step 5:
Using your knife, carve out a little crater around the top hole of the banana. Take your bowl piece now and wedge it into this cavity.
Blow once more through the bottom of the banana. If there is air flow, you have successfully created a smoking pipe out of a banana.
How to make a bong out of a pineapple
Materials
-A bowl piece and a downstem from a bong
-A bong mouthpiece or a 4-8 inch piece of sturdy plastic tubing.
-A kitchen knife
-A spoon or ice cream scoop (for hollowing out the pineapple)
Step 1:
With your kitchen knife, cut off the top of the pineapple. Leave an inch or so, as this will be a lid you will need to place back on top of the finished product.
Step 2:
Using your knife and spoon/ice cream scoop, hollow out the inside of the pineapple. This step is made much easier with a pineapple corer if you have one.
Step 3:
After hollowing out the pineapple. About ¾ of an inch from the bottom of the pineapple, use the tip of your knife to poke through its side.
Aim downward, as this is where you will insert your downstem. You could make a more precise hole with a power drill if you have one.
Step 4:
Take your bowl and downstem and push it through the incision you just made, aiming downward.
Step 5:
Directly opposite your downstem, make another downward incision. The size of your incision will be dependent on the size of your mouthpiece. Push the mouthpiece about an inch through the incision.
Step 6:
Fill the pineapple with water until the downstem is submerged about ½ inch. Place the lid back on top and you have successfully created a bong out of a pineapple.
